Castle Howard is having a spring clean inside and out. The Atlas Fountain is receiving an attentive pressure wash to remove the algae but preserve the stone, before being refilled. The sculpture was designed by William Andrews Nesfield and carved from Portland stone by John Thomas. It was first turned on in October 1853. The house and gardens of the North Yorkshire property attract 250,000 visitors every year.
