Miraculous sleep

-

sir – I feel qualified to comment on the effects of poor-quality sleep (report, March 16), having been diagnosed with sleep apnoea. Until six months ago I was waking 86 times an hour and rising in the morning feeling tired, struggling to stay awake in the day and generally operating under par. I would even nod off mid-conversation, which strained friendships.

Then I was prescribed a therapy device (a mask) by a sleep clinic, and in less than a week there was a miraculous change. I now wake feeling refreshed, my performance at work is immeasurably better, my memory has improved and I am mentally more able to cope with life. Nothing has changed other than achieving an unbroken night’s sleep, and I am even getting used to the discomfort of the mask. My friends are talking to me again, too. Jane Rasch
