Trophy hunting
sir – Sir Ranulph Fiennes (Commentary, March 16) is right – trophy hunting is a gruesome pastime, particularly when organised by game farms, or when hunters are seen to be blatantly celebrating their kill.
Acting against all who hunt wild game for self-gratification should be the rule and a law framed accordingly. But it must never be forgotten that the money paid by all those others who take aim with a gun supports not only a vast number of people and the preservation of the countryside, but also our heroes who fight the poachers. Without them there would be carnage. Ranulf Rayner
