Volcano-threatened US wants to invade Russia, claims Putin ally

- By Nataliya Vasilyeva

THE US is plotting to take over Russia in order to save Americans from a catastrophic volcano eruption in Yellowstone, an ally of Vladimir Putin has claimed.

Nikolai Patrushev, chairman of Russia’s Security Council and former head of the FSB security agency, is known for peddling conspiracy theories that reportedly feed into the Russian president’s way of thinking.

In an interview with Russia’s Izvestia newspaper yesterday, the 71-year-old former KGB officer reiterated his previous claim that Russia stands in the way of the “West that is trying to build its own world order”.

Prompted by the interviewer about a recent volcano eruption in the Russian Far East, Mr Patrushev cited alleged research suggesting a mega-volcano in the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming might erupt soon, causing an “unprecedented catastrophe” that could make the “death of all living creatures in North America inevitable”.

Yellowstone, which covers 3,500 sq miles, is one of the largest national parks in the United States.

Mr Patrushev went on to suggest that Washington’s “aggressive” plans regarding Russia might be linked to the potential apocalyptic eruption.

“Some people in America insist that Eastern Europe and Siberia will be the safest places on Earth in case of a possible eruption,” he said. “This seems to be the answer to the question why Anglosaxon elites are aching to capture [the Russian] heartland.”

Mr Patrushev has long accused Washington of plotting to attack Russia. In 2015, he alleged that Madeleine Albright, then US Secretary of State, was scheming to seize Siberia and the Far East from Russia.

His claim dated back to a 2006 interview with a retired KGB general who said he was involved in a top-secret occult project that managed to read Ms Albright’s mind.

Recent reports have claimed that Putin has became increasingly paranoid about his safety. He is alleged to have made up his mind about invading Ukraine after spending months in his official residence in 2020 as he sheltering from the Covid pandemic.

Mr Patrushev is believed to have been one of the few officials Putin kept seeing on a regular basis.
