All hands on deck!
The Black Kinnaird is a much loved pirate ship in the playground at Castleview Primary School. Sadly it was damaged by fire but volunteers from Edinburgh Tool Library (the Tooligans) have sailed to the rescue and hope that in the coming weeks she will be boarded again by young Greendykes pirates.
With donations of wood from Move On Wood Recycling in Granton and sleepers for the base contributed by St Andrews Timber & Building Supplies, all they have to do is provide the expertise. While they arrr! pretty good at the timber side of things they could do with supporters who might help with the detailing.
Castleview Primary Headteacher, Clare Langley, said: "The Edinburgh Tool Library have been amazing and we can't thank them enough. Sadly our Pirate Ship was badly damaged by fire vandalism last year. The Edinburgh Tool Library heard about our situation and contacted us to see if there was anything they could do to help. Our pupils prepared a movie to show how they had played with the boat and what they would like to happen. The Tool Library have listened and used their creative skills to save what they can and rebuild the ship. They have come to school at weekends to work on the ship. Our pupils can't wait to see and play on the finished article. Thank you Edinburgh Tool Library. "The UK’s first tool library is a charity established in 2014 which promotes sharing as a way of reducing environmental impact. They lend tools and teach borrowers how to use them, are supported by many volunteers and have around 1000 tools to lend. See them at the Leith Walk Police Box on Saturdays.
The original pirate ship was donated by Fort Kinnaird shopping centre.
