From 23 March the cost of sending a letter increased. The price of a first class stamp goes up by 6p to 76p. A second class stamp rises to 65p. The Royal

Mail said that the increases are due to ‘a challengin­g business environmen­t’.

If you are out driving in the city centre then be aware that Cowgate is to remain closed to traffic each Friday and Saturday evening from 10.00pm to 5.00am following a decision to continue the Traffic Restrictio­n Order already in place. No traffic can enter Cowgate from Guthrie Street or Candlemake­r Row. Any drivers who breach the temporary restrictio­n will get a £50 fixed penalty notice from police.

Girl Guiding Colinton are looking for a new leader for 193B Colinton Guides. The person would join the existing team of adult volunteers, one of whom is stepping down in June after many years of service. They would love to hear from anyone with experience in Girl Guiding. This is an establishe­d unit with around 30 Guides.

They meet on Tuesdays between 7.30pm and 9.00pm.

Spokes Spring public meeting is on Monday 23 March.

More and more people are fighting for safer conditions to get around by bike – for environmen­t and climate reasons, for health, and to promote towns and cities not dominated by vehicles.

The public meeting and Spokes new factsheet will outline the many and varied stories of people doing just that – and how we can all follow their example.

A wide range of people involved in different ways in local bike campaignin­g will speak, followed by a one-hour Q/A and panel discussion chaired by Spokes member Cllr Scott Arthur. www.spokes.org.uk

A new initiative by Edinburgh Printmaker­s is attempting to reinvigora­te the High Street. EP Spaces takes temporary spaces and transforms unused shops and office spaces into creative hubs.

The project matches artists and community groups for a monthly £50 fee with low cost spaces in cities across Scotland. The spaces are available to graduates, charities and art festivals
