The Edinburgh Reporter

ABOUT US

- Phyllis Stephen Editor

During the coronavirus lockdown which began in March, we have apparently all become mad bakers, have learned a new language, taken up a new instrument, and are looking out for each other simply by staying at home.

Of course there are exceptions. (you don't have to have the new language skills, okay?) We have other ideas on how you can use your free time on pages 8 and 9.

For some people, even in the face of a pandemic, it is quite hard to stay at home. There are helplines for those who suffer domestic abuse, which sadly is on the increase. For those of you who have problems with cooking each and every day, we have a list on our website of Edinburgh firms who deliver ingredients or ready made meals. The resource has proved popular with readers and we hope that by providing information like this we continue to be useful.

We also have live news updated as often as possible pinned to our website's front page. If you have any information that would be useful to others then please share it with us.

If you find it difficult to get a copy of The Edinburgh Reporter then perhaps you would sign up for our delivery service? There is a cost, but we have kept it to a minimum to cover postage with a small admin fee on top to help us keep going. We have cut our advertising rates in an effort to attract some much-needed income. If you are interested then please get in touch with us at the email address below.

There are many people in Edinburgh whose difficulty is that they are not able, for a variety of reasons, to put meals on the table, and we have met some of the volunteers who are out delivering meals. They could all do with your help, whether as a volunteer or by making a small donation from time to time. There are people in Edinburgh, and across the world, who truly deserve praise for their selflessness. Those include our NHS workers, care home staff, ambulance crews, the police and fire services and retail staff.

Others are just volunteers who want to help in some way. Apparently over 5,000 have offered their help to Volunteer Edinburgh, who now have the job of sifting through all the applications.
