Rotarians helping where they can
Edinburgh Rotary clubs, like everyone else, are unable to have face-to-face meetings. They have cancelled or postponed annual events and have witnessed an impact on their fundraising efforts.
But Rotarians are far from inactive. Clubs meet “virtually” to discuss ways of helping the local community, handle club business and hear presentations from speakers like Labour MP Ian Murray, the Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, and an Honorary Rotary member.
Money raised by Rotary activities is supporting Edinburgh foodbanks, disadvantaged families, the YMCA and the Cyrenians, which provide meals. Charities are suffering financially from the cancellation of fundraisers. Rotary clubs are trying to assist where they can with donations, particularly to local hospices, children’s and vulnerable people services. They also provide practical assistance with deliveries of groceries or medicines, or by contacting isolated people. Rotary clubs have generous public support and many loyal sponsors. Every penny raised goes to good causes. secretary@rotary1020.org
