Beach art at Portobello

Life is a beach – or maybe it’s just what you make of it if pop-up art appearing on the coast around Edinburgh is anything to go by.

Down Porty way, it’s not unusual to find driftwood sculptures along the stretch of golden sands but a recent addition was a circular design scraped on the beach early one morning.

And with Covid-19 limiting contact between friends and families, youngster have taken to leaving chalked birthday messages along the Prom in lieu of sending birthday cards.

Not to be outdone, an organic sculpture continues to grow on the beach a few miles further east on Fisherrow Sands at Musselburgh. It’s believed Standing Sticks was started by one person placing a few larger pieces of wood and now others keep adding to the project.
