Without the need to home school during the holidays there is every chance you might be able to relax a little during half term. Here are some suggestion­s.

LOVE Gorgie Farm is open with no booking procedures. Free to access this is a charity and would welcome your donations. Nearby parking for Blue Badge holders only. Go alpaca trekking for £15. City Art Centre is 40 years old and has two exhibition­s. One is a range of art from its own collection of over 5,000 artworks. The other is Bright Shadows : Scottish Art in the 1920s exploring the evocative period of social, political and economic change.

The Scottish Storytelli­ng Festival is on from 17 to 31 October and begins on Saturday 17th with the Edinburgh Old Town Family Day. The given title is In the Flow -a way of introducin­g the music and storytelli­ng of Scotland's Coasts and Waters. Get out and about on foot or on bikes. Plan ahead and use the National Cycle Network as a guide for where to go. Sustrans suggests making it interestin­g on the way by visiting playground­s and ice cream vans.
