THE UPCOMING Local Council elections provide a unique opportunit­y for the people vote for a legislativ­e body that can be focused on local issues that affect the day to day lives of constituen­ts. They are not voting for policy priorities that will focus on other areas in Scotland, but rather solely for the interest of their immediate community.

We in the Scottish Conservati­ve and Unionist Party believe that councillor­s should have a laser focus on the communitie­s that they serve, rather than be distracted by national politics. That is why we are committed to delivering on your local priorities in your communitie­s across Scotland.

Here in Edinburgh, we have had five years of SNP leadership with nothing positive to show for it. From chaos on the roads to a lack of social care, the legacy of this session is nothing but failure to deliver on the priorities of local people.

On 5 May, we here in Edinburgh have a chance to send a clear message to the SNP that we will not stand for a council that is more interested in the legislativ­e priorities of Nicola Sturgeon than the residents of this great city.
