ALL ABOUT EVE
I thoroughly enjoyed Eve Jones’s column (Younger in The Field, August issue), when she referred to ladies on the shooting field as “peg fluff”. Following a trip to the Scottish grousemoors, where there was an abundance of arm candy, I mused that “butt fluff” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. William Marsden-smedley
By email I really enjoyed Eve Jones’ candid article about being a fieldsports virgin. I’ve only recently got into game-shooting after a few years of enjoying shooting clays. I’m lucky that my dad and husband are passionate shooters and have encouraged me, otherwise I think I’d have been put off by the feeling it’s a members-only man’s world.
As a budding female shooter I’ve been met with encouragement and enthusiasm by fellow shooters at clay grounds, although I had a disappointing experience at The Game Fair while looking for a technical shooting vest. I looked at dozens of stands but there were plenty of nicely cut tweed vests (among the tweed mini skirts) but all lacking shoulder patches, oversized pockets and the ability to move freely to, you know, actually shoot. At one stand I was told they didn’t have technical jackets for women and was ushered towards the pretty jackets.
Apart from that, I’ve had a wonderful first season, piling into the back of shooting wagons with a bunch of friendly chaps, chatting about the land, learning about their dogs and being given invaluable tips and advice.
