a shaw thing
Editor Jonathan Young is right on target recommending Jeremy
Shaw’s tweed plus-sixes (Essential kit for the moor, August issue). A shooting man himself, Jeremy delivers handsome, bespoke tweeds engineered to protect from rain, foul weather and even fouler midges.
I have never had the joy of owning one of his velvet smoking jackets but some 40 years ago my indulgent mother underwrote a trip to the tailor for a new hacking jacket. David Niven was there being fitted for an emerald-green smoker that I decided my mother would want me to have. Mr Niven advised me to start with a deep blue velvet jacket, which he said he already had, and add a green one later in life. I followed his advice and wear it those joyous evenings after a shooting day. The frogs are getting frayed so maybe it is time to visit Jeremy for than emerald green one.
