Essential or antiquated?

Every season, the same questions must be tackled and this month Fielders were divided by

shooting ties. “Essential,” insisted one. “Mandatory,” agreed another. “Essential if you’re

shooting game,” added one more. “It’s about showing the birds and your host appreciation and respect.” But not all agreed. “Anachronism. Is the humble pigeon any less worthy? Fowlers on the shore? A roe buck in summer? Nothing about

respect to the bird. Just a tradition.”
