FLYBOX IS AN ICONIC BRAND
QA friend’s father was an ‘original’ in the First Special Service Forces during the Second World War, often called ‘the Devil’s Brigade’, and, as a major in the reserves, was posted to India in the 1950s where he fished. My friend has been using his father’s fly box and I was wondering if you recognise the marks on the box?

AThe box is by Richard Wheatley. The stamp bears the monogram of the company, RW. The box is made of Silmalloy metal.
Richard Wheatley founded his eponymous company in 1827 and it went into liquidation in 2013. In order to prevent the iconic brand from vanishing, Clive Edwards, a compulsive Wheatley box collector, and both founder and curator of the Richard Wheatley Museum, incorporated it into the museum’s collection. Edwards is now a manufacturer of a range of Wheatley boxes.
