OUTSTANDIN­G RETRIEVE BY ANY RETRIEVING BREED DURING THE 2019/20 SEASON

The category for exemplary gundog work, open to all retrieving breeds. Entry must include an example of at least one retrieve that could be considered perfect, or one undertaken in unusual or difficult conditions. Entry must include an independen­t witness statement.

OUTSTANDIN­G WORK BY A SPANIEL DURING THE 2019/20 SEASON

The category for exemplary gundog work, open to all spaniel breeds. Entry must include an example of at least one retrieve that could be considered perfect, or one undertaken in unusual or difficult conditions, or several examples of excellent work sustained throughout the season. Entry must include an independen­t witness statement.

THE BEST AMATEUR PICKER-UP

The Gundog Awards’ only non-canine category, open to amateur pickers-up who go above and beyond and make the season a joy, regardless of how many dogs form their team.

THE BEST FAMILY GUNDOG

A working pet that is as at home by the fire as on the peg – their companions­hip is integral and essential to a family or a wider community.

THE NAUGHTIEST GUNDOG

One amusing incident or series of misdemeano­rs by a well-trained gundog that knows better but decides to behave badly anyway.

THE BEST GUNDOG THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO A GUNDOG BREED

A dog of any breed that is not considered a traditiona­l gundog but has shown impressive working ability.

THE BEST VETERAN GUNDOG

Open to all grey-muzzled gundogs of any breed aged eight years or over, that have had a long working career and continue to impress in the field.

THE MOST PRECOCIOUS PUPPY

Open to all gundog apprentice­s of any breed aged one year or under that show early signs of aptitude for the field.

GUNDOG PHOTOGRAPH OF THE YEAR: PORTRAIT

An exceptiona­l portrait photograph of any working dog, perfectly encapsulat­ing its character. Winning entry will receive a cash prize.

GUNDOG PHOTOGRAPH OF THE YEAR: ACTION

An exceptiona­l motion shot perfectly encapsulat­ing a gundog of any breed at work in the field. Winning entry will receive a cash prize.
