GREEN DREAM
Q Having been deprived of various country sports last year, I turned to the garden and grew vegetables. I struggled with the tomatoes and am hoping to improve this year. In preparation, is there a way you might recommend for ripening green tomatoes?

A Green tomatoes will keep and ripen using a traditional method. The trusses of fruit should be laid in boxes, between sheets of newspaper and kept in a warm, dry room, preferably around 15°C to 20°C. It should take about 10 to 14 days for the fruit to ripen; check regularly as the tomatoes will ripen at different speeds.
