Burghley is back

Land Rover Burghley is back – and better than ever – this September. How we have missed these major family days out in the countryside, where we meet old friends and make new ones

We can’t wait to welcome people back to this very special event

The autumn bonanza of horse sport, superb shopping and brilliant entertainment in the spectacular setting of Burghley Park has been much missed in its two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. However, with new faces at the helm of this most loved of outdoor sporting occasions, Land Rover Burghley is firmly back in its traditional place in the calendar (1-4 September).

Event director Martyn Johnson says: “Land Rover Burghley is one of the most fantastic occasions in the British sporting year, and we can’t wait to welcome people back to this very special event, which has so much for everyone to enjoy.”

Although top-class eventing action is at the heart of Land Rover Burghley, there are many other countryside-related activities to take part in and watch over the four days of the event. The Land Rover Experience, which runs throughout the week on the south side of the lake, gives visitors the thrill of being driven over dynamic display equipment in one of the latest Land Rover vehicles. Elsewhere, for the first time, Olympian and British dressage hero Carl Hester will be hosting a dressage masterclass. And once again, the Pol Roger Lodge will be situated next to the main arena, providing a convivial bolthole in which to relax, indulge and socialise with friends. There are other equestrian competitions and displays to watch every day, such as the highly prestigious Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse finals – back with a modernised format and much better prize money for 2022.

For many people, of course, the outstanding shopping is the highlight of Land Rover Burghley. The opening days of the event tend to attract those who know they can find everything on their Christmas shopping lists in the spacious and wellpresented lanes of the famous shopping village. Boasting more than 600 trade stands and offering everything from a fabulous array of clothing, both practical and fashionable, to jewellery, art, bespoke furniture, garden supplies, equestrian kit, sporting equipment, books and more, this is retail therapy at its finest. And the food! The Burghley Food Walk offers so much delicious produce from a wide range of artisan British companies that you won’t be able to stop yourself.

This year’s official charity is the Household Cavalry Foundation, which provides charitable and pastoral welfare support to serving soldiers, operational casualties, veterans and dependents of the Household Cavalry. The foundation also supports the Household Cavalry’s heritage and its retired horses and is a cause that will strike a chord with many readers of The Field.

While tickets for Land Rover Burghley can be bought on the gate, there are good discounts for passes purchased in advance by calling the event’s booking line on 0121 796 6079 or by visiting burghley-horse.co.uk, where you can also find the timetable for the week, information on competitors, maps of the showground and the cross-country course and a full list of trade stands.
