STRIKE PAIR ARE A REAL THREAT
THE managers called it right. Oldham take great credit for the way they played and Posh weren’t at the races.
The Latics were excellent in midfield and moved the ball around effortlessly at times – but they fell victim to a striker in supreme form. Britt Assombalonga’s brilliant individual strike was no fluke, Posh’s record signing has the confidence to take a game by the scruff of the neck.
Fact was neither side put defences to the ultimate test enough – but both can do better.
If Oldham can add a cutting edge, Lee Johnson should have plenty to look forward to this season. As for Posh, the fact they have nine points without hitting their full straps tells an ominous story for Fergie’s promotion rivals. Their two best displays have been on the road but Assombalonga’s partnership with Tyrone Barnett will give League One defences nightmares.
