MOYES KNOWS HE HAS MADE ERRORS

-

THE David Moyes debate at Manchester United rumbles on. Possibly nobody saw this season coming; but truthfully, nobody could really imagine what was going to happen once Sir Alex left the dugout. For sure, it was an impossible challenge to follow the greatest.

Seeing David slumped in his defeated seat in Greece was a sorry sight.

On reflection, I think David might consider he made some mistakes.

I wonder in a quiet moment, for instance, whether he wishes he had retained somebody like Mike Phelan on his management team.

Mike knew those United players inside out and he was a big factor in their recent winning years. You always need some continuity.

We didn’t used to hear United players speaking out about the manager or his ways.

But when all is said and done, Moyes has decided to go in a new and different direction. Under those circumstances, things will be difficult. For a long time.

Those not wanted and those cast aside are a powerful presence, a big army to fight. That fight is tough enough when you are Sir Alex and have a track record of success.

Sometimes you can do worse than look at past decisions and correct them. It is easy to see answers from outside. Inside the situations might make certain decisions essential. But I cannot help feeling in this case that some of the answers are more obvious than complicated.

The champions have slumped not slipped. There will be simple reasons for that.
