Huddersfield’s Adam Clayton picks his best XI

GOALKEEPERI

Kasper Schmeichel – Leicester City He’s probably the best kicker of a football as a goalie I’ve seen. Kasper and Joe Hart used to zing it all over in training at Man City! He loved a joke but when it comes to game time he’s very serious.

RIGHT BACKI

Kieran Trippier – Burnley I played with him most of my youth career and he’s been the best right back in the Championship this year. He’s got the most assists and I wouldn’t mind that attacking threat down the wing in my team! Obviously he’s got people like Danny Ings and Sam Vokes turning his crosses in but he’s putting balls on a plate for them.

CENTRE BACKI

Micah Richards – Manchester City He’s an absolute beast and one of the best physical specimens I’ve ever seen. You would struggle to get anyone to out-run him or out-muscle him. I saw him when he first came into the City team and this is his best position.

CENTRE BACKI

Nedum Onuoha – QPR If anyone did beat Micah then Nedum could catch them. When he first came into the City team he was like the next Sol Campbell. He’s one of the fastest players I’ve seen and could’ve been a sprinter. He’s got about 400 A-Levels as well!

LEFT BACKI

Ian Harte – Bournemouth I’m going with a golden oldie but I want him when he was 25! I went on loan to Carlisle when he was there and he scored 19 goals from centre half! He’s got the best left-foot I’ve seen. He scored loads of freekicks and got his move to Reading at 32!

RIGHTI MIDFIELDI

Robert Snodgrass – Norwich City I played with him at Leeds and you could- n’t tackle him when he had the ball on the end of his left foot. He’s one of the best to have in your dressing room because he’s a funny, funny man. He loves a prank phone call so if you ever get a prank call with a Scottish voice, just ask if it’s Snoddy first!

CENTRALI MIDFIELDI

Jonny Howson – Norwich City An all-round quality player. We had a pretty good connection, got on well and we complemented each other. We used to say that he’s got his own spot in the net where he puts the ball every time. If we had kept that Leeds team together, we would’ve had a massive chance of going up but everyone went to Norwich! Nigel de Jong – AC Milan In training at City he was unreal at just smashing people and getting the ball! He would get you in a headlock and strangle you but let you go at the last minute as well! If something was kicking off you definitely wanted Nige around, he’s a pit-bull!

LEFT MIDFIELDI

Max Gradel – SaintEtienne He was at Leeds as well. Like Snoddy, he was great on the counter-attack and scored almost 20 goals one season. He was a character. He used to get people up singing and dancing at dinner and banging spoons on glass bottles.

STRIKERI

Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool I played with him from the age of 11-20. He’s got the most ability I’ve ever seen and he could go on to be one of the best there is. If he could shoot with his right foot, he’d be the perfect player! He’s got to start at the World Cup. David Ball – Fleetwood Town He’s my best mate but he’s also the best first-time finisher when one-on-one that I’ve played with. He just doesn’t miss. We’d stay up in the Premier League with this team!
