The midfielder is out of contract this summer and hopes he has done enough recently to earn a new deal, having missed seven months of the season with an ankle injury.

The former Scotland international, who scored his first goal in 17 months in Monday’s 3-1 win against Stevenage, said:“I’d like to stay, but I’m aware I’ve missed a lot of the season and it may be difficult.

“All I can do is do my best when I get an opportunity and hope it is enough. I have two games left to show what I can do.

“I’m very happy here. This is a club that is definitely on the up.

“We’ve turned the corner and I think we could do great things next season. I’d love to be a part of that.”
