BRISTOL CITY want Colchester United striker Freddie Sears to spearhead their push for promotion from League One.

The Robins are desperate to strengthen their front line when the transfer window opens.

Steve Cotterill has been keeping tabs on Sears since he scored for Colchester United in their defeat at Ashton Gate earlier this season.

Sears is out of contract with Colchester at the end of the season but they are planning to open talks about a new deal.

The former West Ham United front man is one of the players Cotterill believes could help his side to maintain their lead at the top of League One.

Sears has been attracting scouts from the Championship and Premier League.

So Cotterill could have his work cut out to persuade Sears that his future lies in the West Country.

Cotterill is also planning to make Matt Smith’s switch from Fulham a more permanent arrangement.

Cotterill has the backing of Robins’ owner Steve Lansdown who is willing to back him with cash in the transfer market if they right players become available. LIVERPOOL are the latest Premier League club to keep tabs on Norwich City flyer Nathan Redmond.

The England U21 international, who was signed from his home town club Birmingham, is rated at around £10m by the Championship side. BOLTON WANDERERS are poised to resign former star Eidur Gudjohnsen who has been training at the club for the last three weeks.

Free agent Gudjohnsen, 36, has been without a club since his 18-month contract with Belgium outfit Club Brugge ran out.

The Icelandic international, who has won 78 caps, first arrived at Bolton in 1998 and stayed until 2000 when he went to Chelsea for £4m

Gudjohnsen won two Premier League titles with Chelsea and then a La Liga and UEFA Champions League championship during a spell at Barcelona.

Bolton boss Neil Lennon has been looking to bolster his front line and has been taking a close look at Gudjohnsen for the last few weeks.

Lennon has agreed terms with Gudjohnsen who is likely to put pen to paper on a deal for the rest of the season.
