GRIMES HAS GOT ‘HODDLE’ QUALITY

“I saw a young Glenn Hoddle emerge and this is another world, but he’s a talent.

“I just think he’s undoubted quality. He’s the best technical player we’ve produced ever since I’ve been here. His attitude is so, so good. He’s grounded, he’s correct, he’s proper, he’s from good stock. I personally don’t see a weakness.

“We just want him to keep doing his job and playing well enough for teams to be queuing up in January.”

The 19-year-old midfielder burst onto the scene last term and has continued to impress this season. SWANSEA-BOUND Matt Grimes has shades of former Tottenham and England star Glenn Hoddle, according to Exeter’s director of football Steve Perryman.

Perryman, Tottenham’s record appearance maker, saw Hoddle in close quarters as the pair picked up domestic and European honours together and feels Grimes is “the most exciting player Exeter have produced” during his time in the south-west.

Though the cash-strapped League Two club are adamant “despite rumours, Grimes remains an Exeter City player”, the England Under-20 internatio­nal looks set to be the subject of a successful £1.75million bid from Swansea when the transfer window reopens next month.
