CROWE’S GLADIATORS COULD RULE WORLD!
THE world of Twitter caught fire when
Gladiator star Russell Crowe suggested he could be interested in buying Leeds United this week.
The club have since come out and poured cold water over the idea, which is a shame as the Oscar-winning actor was set to use all his showbiz contacts – with a bit of help from The Foot
ball League Paper – to come up with a formidable Leeds team.
The New Zealand-born actor was advised to line up a swoop on football film Escape to Victo
ry to bring in goalkeeper Sylvester Stallone and experienced right-back Michael Caine.
He would have played himself in the heart of defence alongside The Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose job was going to be to destroy opposition forwards.
And the childhood Leeds fan was eager to bring in attacking full-back Rambo at left-back.
“He’s an explosive player with a shoot on sight policy,” said the Hollywood star.
Crowe had suggested snapping up the tireless Forrest Gump to play in central midfield.
“He just doesn’t stop running for 90 minutes, but sometimes he gets a bit lost,” said Crowe.
Rocky would have been a knockout in the midfield engine room and could have teamed up with current Whites midfielder Adryan as part of a central midfield trio.
The unflappable James Bond had already planned to bag the number seven shirt and play on the right wing. John Travolta was pencilled in for the left-wing slot.“He’s grease lightning,” said Crowe.
To finish off his 4-5-1 formation, the actor was keen to bring old Leeds favourite, Joe ‘Jaws’ Jordan back to the club to scare the living daylights out of the opposition.
Crowe, 50, the co-owner of rugby league club South Sydney Rabbitohs, said:“This team would have been big box office – we’d have filled Elland Road every game.
“Sadly for the fans, it isn’t to be. Maybe I’ll look for another club instead and I wouldn’t mind being a manager – I hear Brentford are looking for a new boss at the end of the season.
“Perhaps I could buy a Championship club that have got a few problems and help them, though even I’m not daft enough to get involved at Blackpool!”
