A sunny weekend in Sheffield...

-

CHRIS STOKES was weighing up a weekend away with fiancée Rebecca last Friday and the left-back got just that – Sheffield United away!

The Forest Green Rovers defender got a late call that his loan move to League One outfit Coventry City had gone through.

So the 23-year-old made a quick dash to meet up with his new team-mates and less than 24 hours later was making his Sky Blues debut in the 2-2 draw. Stokes, who has initially signed for a month, said:“I trained at Forest Green on Friday and thought I had another weekend relaxing in store so I’d better do a running session to keep my fitness up.

“A couple of hours before the call came I was having a chat with Rebecca and thinking if we should we go away somewhere.

“She was like,‘Flipping hell, another weekend of putting up with you!’

“But I got the call, got my stuff ready and I was on my way. I didn’t have much time to think about what was happening.

“It all went so quick, I can’t really remember the game. I sat down to watch it and analyse my performance, and I couldn’t remember what had actually happened!”

His whirlwind weekend continued when boss Steven Pressley was sacked after the club dropped into the relega- tion zone. Neil MacFarlane and Dave Hockaday, the man who took Stokes to Rovers, were in the dug-out for yesterday’s game with MK Dons – and Stokes scored the opener in a excellent 2-1 victory for the Sky Blues.

“I’m gutted the boss went but it doesn’t really affect what I’m doing here,” said Stokes, who had been training with the club before signing.“I’ve got to impress whoever comes in.”
