DREAM TEAM

GEORGE MONCUR – The Colchester United midfielder chooses his favourite XI, made up from players he has played with in his football career

GOALKEEPERI

Sam Walker – Colchester United He is a real class act. From the day I walked through the door that was obvious. He is still young, too, only 23, so he has plenty of time to improve.

RIGHT BACKI

Callum Driver – Dartford I grew up with him, we are good mates, and he was only let go from West Ham about a year ago. His attitude was top class and it’s a shame he’s dropped down the leagues. His application and skill deserve to take him to the top.

CENTRE BACKI

Winston Reid – West Ham United He has developed into a brilliant player over the past couple of seasons. Manchester United were linked with him, so it’s a massive plus that he has just signed a new longterm contract. He’s a really good player, one of the most consistently solid I’ve seen.

CENTRE BACKI

Tom Eastman – Colchester United Tom has a radar on him when it comes to pinging a pass to the other end of the pitch. It’s a huge asset to have as a centre-back and, at 6ft 3in, he can mix it up as well.

LEFT BACKI

Ben Gordon – Colchester United He’s a dream to play with as a central midfielder. He has wonderful passing ability and he rolls the ball into you on a plate. On top of that, he’s a great athlete and not too shabby as a defender either.

DEFENSIVEI MIDFIELDI

Mark Noble – West Ham United You won’t find many players quite as passionate. He is so good in the dressing room, he inspires you to want to go that extra mile. When I was coming through the ranks at West Ham, we played a few friendlies and pre-season games together. He would so often be the stand-out player, he has incredible ability in the middle.

CENTRALI MIDFIELDI

John Moncur – Retired I think I should probably put my old man in there! I’ve played with him a bunch of times and with his Premier League record and having seen videos of him in his heyday, he would definitely be in my dream team.

CENTRALI MIDFIELDI

Ravel Morrison – Unattached His ability is unquestionable. I played with him a few times at West Ham and I remember his crazy ball skills. He could catch a volley from anywhere. It looks like he might go to Lazio and hopefully time out of England will do him good.

ATTACKINGI MIDFIELDI

Alex OxladeChamberlain – Arsenal When I played my first England U18 game the Ox was playing. You can’t ignore the career he has had so far and the quality he’s got. He comes across as a down-to-earth guy and I think he will be a big player for England for years to come.

STRIKERI

Elliot Lee – Luton Town (on loan from West Ham United) Elliot is a really good mate of mine. We went through our time at West Ham together. He scores loads of goals and has the chance to show that now on loan at Luton – he even scored on his debut there.

STRIKERI

Dylan Tombides – Deceased It was a tragedy that he died from cancer at the age of just 20. He was a top striker and a really good mate of mine at West Ham. He was up there with the best players I’ve played alongside and the nicest lad you could ever wish to meet.
