CLUBS COMPETE FOR FAIRYTALE AT NEW YORK

- Matt Badcock

ROTHERHAM UNITED’S New York Stadium will host the finale of the season’s big cup competition.

The FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup final will be played at the Championship club’s stadium on Sunday, November 1.

The quarter-final games kick-off today, although Manchester City’s game with Arsenal as been postponed after the Citizens were charged with fielding an ineligble player in the last round against Sunderland.

It means the defence of the trophy they won last season, by beating the Gunners 1-0, is now in doubt.

This season’s final, which will bring the curtain down on the WSL season, kicks off at 3pm, with tickets priced £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.

A family ticket for two adults and two children costs just £10.

The FA head of women’s leagues and competitions Katie Brazier said:“The AESSEAL New York Stadium is a fantastic facility and a great arena to play one of the biggest women’s matches of the season.

“This season’s competition has gone from strength-to-strength, with many clubs reporting record cup attendances and hugely exciting games and performances in every round. We are confident that this year’s final will be a fitting end to an incredible season.

“We look forward to working alongside Rotherham United and the finalists, along with our sponsor Continental Tyres, to make the final a big success.”
