SEAGULLS SLIP UP AGAINST QPR

QPR registered their first win in the WPL South with a stunning victory over previously unbeaten leaders Brighton.

The Seagulls took the lead in the 50th minute when substitute Amy Taylor shot past Sophie Cheadle. But four minutes later Danielle Puddefoot slotted away a spot kick to level it up. QPR scored again to secure all three points when Jo Wilson latched on to a superb through-ball.

Charlton kept the pressure on the top two with a 6-0 thrashing of Forest Green Rovers. Gemma Shepherd scored twice as the Addicks moved to within two points of Brighton.

Plymouth slipped to the bottom of the table after a 3-1 loss to high-flying Cardiff. The Bluebirds raced to a 3-0 lead before the break as Hope Suominen scored a brace and Kerry Bartlett added a third. Argyle did get a late consolatio­n when Danielle Salt latched on to a perfect ball from Mollie Taylor. West Ham edged out Lewes 10 thanks to a second half strike from Paige Anderson-James. Portsmouth shared the spoils with Coventry United, leaving them six points off the top spot. Gemma Hillier scored her first goal of the season in the 17th minute, but a second half finish from Amber Hughes ensured it finished 1-1.

In the WPL North, Blackburn recorded a 4-2 win over Huddersfie­ld to put them within three points of leaders Derby.

Sophie Jones opened the scoring for Rovers in style, but Emily Heckler’s header levelled it up. Rovers took the lead after half time as Ali Johnson’s cross eluded the Huddersfie­ld keeper, and just six minutes later she added a third. Lynda Shepherd and Heckler added two late goals.

Two first half strikes from Andi Bell and Natasha Meade saw Nottingham Forest beat struggling Nuneaton 2-0.

Bradford secured a sixth straight win in all competitio­ns thanks to three late goals at

Stoke. Kate Asher gave the Potters the lead after half an hour, but an impressive comeback started in the 78th minute, with Hannah Campbell, Rosie McDonnell and Sarah Danby wrapping up the points in stoppage time.

Preston swept away Newcastle 5-0 with Lagan Makin scoring a brace, while Guiseley’s match with Sporting Club

Albion was postponed.
