GEORGE ARRIVES JUST-IN TIME FOR GILLS!
JUSTIN Edinburgh has backed young Wales forward George Williams to make a big impact at Gillingham after he arrived on loan from Championship side Fulham.
The 20-year-old, who has made just one league appearance this season, will remain at the Priestfield Stadium until the end of the season as he looks to secure a spot in Chris Coleman’s Wales squad for the European Championships in France.
Williams, who can play both up front or just behind the strikers, made his full senior debut for Wales in May 2014 and has made six appearances so far for his country.
And with Williams having recovered from an ACL injury that had sidelined him for six months, Edinburgh is confident the youngster will have the opportunity to prove himself between now and the end of the season, as well as helping the high-flying Gills gain promotion from League One.
“He is a bit of a Bradley Dack type and we needed to have that little spark, that little bit of x-factor and I have no doubt he will bring that for us,” said Edinburgh, ahead of yesterday’s long trip to strugglers Oldham Athletic.
“It took us a little longer than expected to get the deal over the line and so he only met the players before kick-off against Barnsley and he didn’t train with us.
“Between now and the end of the season he will play a big part. If you have someone who has the chance of getting to the Euros, here in League One with Gillingham, we will all get to see what kind of talent he is.
“He needs to get gametime to get to the Euros and what an incentive that can be. To help us gain promotion and for him to get to the Euros. He is an infectious player and I am delighted to get him here.”
