BOSS PAUL IS CONFIDENT OF CITY SUCCESS

- By Chris Bailey

CARDIFF CITY will work under a unique structure next season, but newly-appointed manager Paul Trollope says he has no concerns.

Malaysian owner Vincent Tan and the Bluebirds board took the decision to move former boss Russell Slade ‘upstairs’ at the end of the season giving him the fairly ambiguous title of head of football.

Trollope originally joined Cardiff in the 2014-15 season as part of Slade’s coaching staff, but having been handed the managerial reins he will not report directly to the former Leyton Orient boss.

The experimental system may have put some potential managerial candidates off, but the 43-year-old former Wales midfielder is ready to embrace the challenge.

“I had no reservations, it is a good club with a good fan base,” Trollope said.

“Every coach has their own philosophies and way of doing things. I have clear ideas what I want. I will bring my own style to that. Anyone who knows me will know that.

“There are areas that need addressing within the team and we will be looking to add quality and also the right people.

“We have to be ambitious and create a belief within the club.

“The target is the play-offs and hopefully promotion.”

Trollope left his last managerial role, at Bristol Rovers, in 2010 after five years at the club.

Most recently he has combined working alongside Slade with duties as part of the Wales backroom staff.

And Tan expects Trollope to be a popular appointment with the supporters.

“I believe Paul will improve the team in several areas,” said Tan. “In particular, I hope he will lead the team to play an attractive style of football that Cardiff City fans love.

“We hope that under Paul’s leadership, Cardiff City will return to the Premier League.”
