JEROME CAN BE KEY FOR CANARIES SAYS FOX
NORWICH CITY legend Ruel Fox is backing striker Cameron Jerome to make a major impact in the Championship this season.
The 30-year-old scored twice in the opening four games, having signed from Stoke City in 2014.
He has a way to go to match the achievements of former winger Fox, who racked up more than 200 appearances for Norwich between 1986 and 1994 and scored 25 times before moving to Newcastle United.
Fox is confident that Alex Neil has a strong enough squad to bounce straight back into the top flight – with Jerome at its spearhead.
“I think, with clubs like Norwich, they’re very shrewd with who they bring in and who they allow to leave the club,” he said.
“The Canaries’ squad is very strong and, when you factor in that they had a lot of players missing against an Ipswich side who were near full strength, it shows the depth at Alex Neil’s disposal.
“Cameron Jerome is someone to watch out for. He didn’t have the best of seasons last year but I thought it was harsh on him as the Premier League is a different type of league.
“He’s more suited to the Championship, where you get a bit more time on the ball. I don’t think the team played to his strengths, but in the Championship he knows the league well.”
Fox also highlighted the importance of Republic of Ireland international Wes Hoolahan as a man who can supply Jerome with the ammunition.
“Wes Hoolahan is a fantastic player and one I like very much in behind the striker. If they can keep him fit and firing, then they’ll have a great season," he added.
“As a yo-yo club, one thing Norwich have had is good finances and experienced players. They have the financial strength to keep their best players.”
