RAJIV KEEPS PARTY ROLLING

- By Mark Williams

HUDDERSFIELD Town’s early-season form is now looking like a sustained assault after the Terriers extended their unbeaten start against previously unbeaten Wolves.

An early goal by livewire winger Rajiv Van La Parra was enough to seal a fourth win for the table-toppers, and afterwards manager David Wagner dedicated the victory to the club’s ‘incredible’ fans.

He said: “I am happy with any victory and we had to learn a different way of winning. We are on a journey and we have started it well but this win is so important for the fans.

“Our supporters have been superb and they deserve the 13 points we already have on the board as much as the players. There was great noise and they were massive for us.

“We stuck together in a tough period after half-time. We had a few problems in the second half but we got the three points we wanted.

“I am proud to be Huddersfield manager and in the position we are in at this stage. But there is still a long way to go for everyone.”

Wolves’ spirited second-half performance was at least an improvement on a woeful opening period, but it was not enough.

The Terriers raced out of the blocks and broke the deadlock after six minutes. A neat interchange on the edge of box led to Kasey Palmer curling an effort onto the post before the impressive Van La Parra sidefooted the rebound home.

Wolves struggled to get a kick in the opening 20 minutes – a wayward George Saville strike from distance was the best the visitors could muster.

The lively hosts continued to press forward and almost doubled their advantage on 26 minutes. Tommy Smith powered down the right and his low cross was almost converted by Nahki Wells at the far post.

The pace of Town caused a laboured Wolves backline constant problems and visiting custodian Carl Ikeme did well to hold a fizzing effort on the turn from Wells.
