TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, ANDY

- By Chris Spittles

ANDY WILLIAMS scored a hat-trick against his former club as Doncaster made it three wins in a row to continue their impressive start to the season.

Rovers shocked their visitors by taking the lead inside the first minute when Williams volleyed in from a corner and were always in control.

In the second half the Glovers had Bevis Mugabi sent off as James Coppinger extended Donny’s lead before Williams completed his treble.

And after suffering relegation last season, Rovers boss Darren Ferguson is confident his team are on the right track.

He said: “We’re getting a bit of momentum now and I think it’s been a while since we put three wins in a row together.

“We got off to a fantastic start with the early goal and then for the first five or ten minutes we dominated the game.

“After that it was a bit of a frustrating first half for us because we didn’t look after the ball well enough and allowed them back into it.

“We sorted things out at halftime though and I was pleased with the response I got and with the control of the game we had after that.

“And what won us the game was our four outstanding goals. They were four quality goals and I’m delighted for Andy Williams to get a hat-trick as well because he was excellent.”

Yeovil have now lost four games in a row and manager Darren Way was left to reflect on Mugabi’s dismissal, which came with the game finely poised at 2-1.

He said: “The red card for Bevis was a key moment, it was a critical incident. The boys were always in that game until that moment.

“He’s apologised to the lads because he didn’t need to make the challenge that led to the second yellow card and it’s proved really costly. He has to learn from that and grow up quickly.

“I’m learning about this group every week and the players have got to stay strong. People may see us as a relegation team and it’s important that I support the players as a manager to make sure we come back strong from this setback.

“It’s my heaviest defeat as a manager but I’ll pick the boys up.”

Williams blasted Rovers ahead from Coppinger’s corner after just 27 seconds but most of the drama came after half-time.

Coppinger converted a cross from Tommy Rowe to make it 2-0 on 54 minutes before Ryan Hedges pounced on a defensive mistake to reduce the deficit just a minute later.

Then came the red card for Mugabi, shown a second yellow for pulling back Williams, to reduce the Glovers to ten men.

With nine minutes left, Williams secured victory when he shot home from a Coppinger pass before completing his hattrick heading in a Rowe cross.
