Neil will change as Lions are tamed

- By Michael Beardmore

MILLWALL boss Neil Harris warned his misfiring Lions to expect changes after a fourth defeat on the spin left them on the brink of the relegation zone.

Last season’s beaten play-off finalists are only outside the bottom four on goal difference after losing to a Walsall side who leapfrogged them out of the drop zone with this win.

And a frustrated Harris admitted: “We started the season really well but we seem to have lost our way.

“Whether that’s players thinking they are better than they are or players believing our press, I don’t know.

“Certainly, for me, it’s too many important players being out of form at the moment.

“We’ve lost four games in a row – whether you deserve to or not, you’ve still lost. That’s the reality of it. There have been moments that have gone against us. But ultimately we’ve conceded goals.

“I’ve been loyal to players and given people opportunities but I will certainly have to consider, if players are available, making changes.”

It could have been different if Shaun Williams’ David Beckham imitation had come off on 13 minutes, but his audacious freekick from inside his own half hit the bar.

Walsall led four minutes later as Simeon Jackson lashed home Franck Moussa’s knockdown from close range.

The lead lasted just five minutes as Mahlon Romeo’s cracking cross picked out Fred Onyedinma to head home from six yards.

Both sides had chances to go ahead before the break but Byron Webster bulleted a header wide for Millwall and Lions keeper Jordan Archer made a smart double save from Kieron Morris and Jackson. Walsall regained the lead four minutes into the second half as Moussa had a tap-in after Archer saved from Jackson’s near-post flick.

Once again, they nearly surrendered the lead straight away but Neil Etheridge brilliantly denied Gregory one-on-one.

And Walsall defended stoutly in the face of Millwall pressure, although Gregory was unlucky to see a 25-yard strike curl just over.

Walsall boss Jon Whitney said: “The game was important because we haven’t got a game next weekend with the international break. So it was important we got some points or we would have been stuck down there in the bottom four.

“The lads take all the credit here, I couldn’t have asked any more from them.”
