GLOOM LIFTED ASMONK MAKES IMPACT

- By Chris Bailey

LEEDS UNITED boss Garry Monk has turned around the side’s fortunes in recent weeks and the 37year-old is confident there is plenty more to come from the Whites.

Little more than a month ago, things looked grim at Elland Road with Leeds in the relegation zone, and Monk was perhaps fortunate the trigger finger of owner Massimo Cellino did not point his way.

But, after notching up three league victories in September and another at home to Barnsley before the international break, to move into mid-table, Monk believes things are rosier.

“I think there is a lot more to come, I really do,” he said. “I think we have a lot of potential in the squad. Sometimes, as manager or a coach, you see more of it than the actual player.

“You can never fully tell what a player’s potential can be, but when I look at them individually, as a team, the confidence they have at the moment, the attitude towards their work, I think there is a lot more to come.

“There are a lot of aspects of our game we can improve, but it will take time.

“It takes repetition, it takes practice, it takes belief, confidence in doing it, trusting themselves more and more. Of course, results give you that.”

Hadi Sacko’s form has been integral in Leeds’ upturn in form.

The on-loan Sporting Lisbon winger admits that, with the chances he is getting, he needs to be hitting the net more often.

“I need to score more goals,” said the 22-year-old.

“I had two or three opportunities in most of the games and I need to score more. It will be better for me and also for the team.

“It’s up to the gaffer to make the decision whether I play or not, but I am happy for the team and my performances at the moment.”
