SWITCH SOUTH PAYING OFF FOR MILLER

- By Ross Lawson

TWELVE years into his career, Gary Miller took the plunge and moved south of the border from Scotland, and with Plymouth flying high at the top of League Two the defender feels the switch has been justified.

The 29-year-old had previously spent all of his career in Scotland, most recently with Partick Thistle, amassing more than 200 league appearances in that time.

But the Glasgow-born full-back opted for a change of scene over the summer, with Home Park the destination of choice – a situation he feels he has adapted well to.

“It’s always good to go and see new places. Some of the stadiums are terrific,” said Miller.

“It has been enjoyable for me. I was in Scottish football for 12 years, so it’s good to get a change and see how we can do in this league now.

“It’s a very good standard. You have got some quality players in each side.

“If you make a mistake, teams will get a goal from it – or they will get a good chance anyway – so you always need to be on your toes.”

Argyle have enjoyed a resurgence after a slow start to the season, with last week’s victory over Stevenage their tenth successive league match without defeat.

And with 28 points coming from a possible 30 during that time, optimism is high on the south coast – despite August losses to both Luton Town and Carlisle United.

But Miller insists his side are not getting carried away.

He added: “We lost the first two games but we have recovered from that and reacted well. I think we have just got to look to continue what we are doing.

“Nobody is getting carried away, walking about thinking we are going to do anything easily, or we are going to achieve this and that.”
