BLUNDER CALL ANGERS DAVIS

- By Leigh Curtis

CREWE boss Steve Davis believes goal-line technology should be introduced to League Two after his side were at the centre of a controversial decision at Notts County.

With the scores locked at 0-0 in the 74th minute, Davis’ son Harry saw a header appear to cross the line but it was not given by the linesman.

Notts then went on to take the lead through Jonathan Forte six minutes later, but hit back immediately through substitute Alex Kiwomya.

Pointing back to what could have changed the game completely, Davis senior said goal-line technology should not just benefit the Premier League.

“From where I was stood, I can’t make that judgement (as to whether it crossed the line),” he said.

“The linesman is in the best position and if it has gone over, then it’s disappointing because that changes the game for us big style.

“We haven’t got goalline technology so we can’t call on that unfortunately. Maybe we need to look at it.

“If that’s a goal then it’s costly to the managers’ jobs and the team and the results.

“Maybe they need to give us a bit of help with getting goalline technology at League One and League Two level.

“It’s equally important if the officials get those decisions wrong. In the long run, and in the bigger picture, it might prove costly to us.

“But we showed character to come back into the game, but I did think we lacked a bit of quality at times, particularly in decision making.

“I thought in the first half we were fine, but then we didn’t create enough. It wasn’t a lack of effort, it was down to us to produce a bit of quality.”

Kiwomya’s goal, which came 30 seconds after Forte had given Notts the lead, denied the hosts a second home win of the season.

The Magpies have struggled in front of their own fans this term and their manager John Sheridan bemoaned the loss of concentration so soon after scoring.

“We are a bit nervy at the moment and you can see that,” he said.

“I thought we were the better team in the first half without working the keeper as much as we would have liked.

“I said to them at half-time that if we have to win the game ugly then do so.

“There was desire and a drive to get the goal we were after, but the biggest downer was we didn’t see the game through.

“As soon as the players went back into the dressing room, I made them watch the DVD of the goal we conceded.

“It’s criminal to concede so early after you score. We were the better team, even though we didn’t play great.

“People will be negative and say we didn’t do this, or didn’t do that, but we got the goal and we should have won the game.

“It was naive from us.”
