CAVASIN DEMANDS ORIENT IMPROVE

- By Liam Parker

NEW Leyton Orient manager Alberto Cavasin has called for improvements across the board after his side’s barren run at Brisbane Road continued.

Goals from Danny Hylton and Cameron McGeehan were enough to seal the three points for Luton and leave troubled Orient without a win in seven league matches.

The only bright spot for Cavasin – who succeeded Andy Hessenthaler at the helm earlier this month – was Ollie Palmer finally ending the goal scoring drought as he scored the O’s first in the league since September 24.

The Italian said: “We need to improve in a lot of areas. There were some moments from us that were very positive but we need to keep up more consistent football during the match.

“We have to be more of a team. There were some individual mistakes but all results are about what the team does.

“We are trying to put little things into place, from the individual performances to the whole team.

“At this moment maybe we are a little out of luck but we are working hard in training to makes things happen for us during games.

“We have to bring out the best in all our players to get the right results. But we have to learn how to deal with the situation we are in.

“The team has to try and take home the result even when an individual makes a mistake.”

Luton started brightly and top-scorer Hylton fired an effort just over the bar from the edge of area after two minutes.

The Hatters took the lead after 31 minutes as Jack Marriott’s poked effort was saved by Alex Cisak but McGeehan was on hand to slot home the rebound for his seventh of the season.

Luton were desperate to avoid a fourth straight 1-1 draw and found the crucial second goal when Hylton went unnoticed in the area and fired home from Marriott’s low cross.

Palmer made sure it was a nervy last ten minutes for the visitors though as his scuffed finish went in off the post after Paul McCallum had crossed into the area.

Hylton almost made the game safe after he wriggled away from Nicky Hunt but his ferocious effort was tipped over by Cisak.

Luton manager Nathan Jones said: “We’re pleased with that. We’re six unbeaten but with a few draws in there, so it’s nice to get back to winning ways.

“We wanted not to lose touch and get back to winning ways.

“The goal is why he has kept his place. It’s hard to leave Cameron (McGeehan) out and at times when we’re not fluid he gives us fluency. I love the kid because of his desire and he can score goals.

“Jack (Marriott) will score goals because he gets into that position. It’s such an improvised quick finish and Cameron was there following up. He’s created Danny’s (Hylton) when maybe he could have scored himself.”
