DANIEL MISSES DEBUT CHANCE BY A DAY!
ROCHDALE teen star Daniel Adshead is set to miss out on a senior team debut – because of one day!
Dale visit Hartlepool United in the Checkatrade Trophy on Wednesday, November 9 and boss Keith Hill was pondering giving highly-rated midfielder Adshead his first team bow.
However, the League One outfit hit a stumbling block because Adshead was born on September 2, 2001, and the cut-off date for players to be eligible is September 1.
It’s understood Rochdale approached the EFL to seek special dispensation for the teenager, who trains with the first team when he’s not at school, but had their request turned down.
In addition to the eligibility issue, the EFL have cited child protection issues for not granting Adshead permission to play.
Rochdale have shown a willingness to blood young players and felt playing for the first team would have been good for Adshead’s development.
He already plays for the Under-16s and Under-18s, while Premier League clubs have been monitoring his progress. However, the big boys won’t get the chance to see him in first team action just yet.
