across goal into the top right corner.

The arrival of Hadi Sacko early in the second half caused Norwich a lot of problems down the right wing. His powerful run eventually saw him play the ball to Eunan O’Kane, who found Luke Ayling before the full-back calmly set Wood for a thunderous close-range goal.

With time almost up Norwich clawed their way back into the match thanks to substitute Lafferty. Jerome’s chest down to the striker had the Leeds backline calling for offside, but Lafferty continued and coolly finished past Green.

The scoring wasn’t over and a speculative 35-yard shot from Vieira skimmed across the wet turf before McGovern pushed it high into the top right corner of the goal – with Vieira giving Leeds a win over Norwich for the second time in 11 days after scoring the decisive penalty in the EFL Cup.

The victory also saw United climb into the top six and Gary Monk believes the win at Carrow Road was just reward, saying: “I really think we deserved the three points, I think our performance overall was good. Of course in the Championship there’s going to be ups and downs within a game but for long periods of that game I thought we were the better team.

“That first 20 minutes was probably the best open 20 we’ve had since I’ve been at the club. We looked so dangerous and we were playing very good football and should have taken one of two of those chances.

“We were excellent offensively and we had to dig in and defend like you’d expect here.”
