FIT-AGAIN STRIKER: I’LL NOT CHANGE MY WAYS

- By Luke Baker

DAVID McGoldrick has been in injury hell over the past two years, but the striker has never lost his confidence – convinced that, with a run in the team, he’ll continue to bang in the goals.

McGoldrick has started just 14 of the last 86 Ipswich games, due to injuries to both knees, his hamstring, his groin and his ankle.

When fit, the 28-year-old is still something of a talisman – he scored in each of his last four Ipswich starts heading into the weekend – and believes he can help fire the Tractor Boys up the league.

”I’ve got every confidence in myself. If I get a run of games I will score goals again, I’ve no doubt about that,” said McGoldrick

“Including the end of last season, that’s now four starts and four goals in a row. I’m not doubting my ability. I know I’ll keep scoring more.

“I’m a confident lad. I’m not being cocky or anything, but I’m a believer in my own ability.

“Every time I get injured, all I think about is coming back so I can show myself – not anyone else – how good a player I am.”

McGoldrick is adamant that his injuries have been unrelated and has tried numerous treatments – including yoga, gymnastics and hyperbaric oxygen therapy – to stay fit.

The former Nottingham Forest marksman has always had an all-action style of play and says he won’t be changing that any time soon.

“I don’t think you can go in half-hearted,” he added. “When I cross that line and the whistle blows, I forget about the injuries.

“I went for a header straight away at Newcastle, landed on my ankle and had no reaction. That was a big boost.

“I know people might make fun and say I’m a sick note, but I don’t want to be injured. I play through pain because I always want to play.”
