ALCOCK’S HOPING INJURY WOES ARE OVER
DONCASTER Rovers defender Craig Alcock is desperate to right his personal wrongs of last year after missing the start of the season through injury.
The 28-year-old, who made nearly 30 appearances last season as Rovers were relegated from League One, picked up an ankle ligament injury over the summer.
And, while Alcock has been restricted to watching the squad from the sidelines during the first three months of the season, he believes he will emerge stronger for the experience.
“It’s been a frustrating start to the season, but I’m thankful the boys have been doing reasonably well and kept us up there,” he said.
“From a personal point of view, it has been frustrating, but it’s nice to be back involved now and I’m looking to push on.
“I tore two ligaments at the front and rear and had a little bit of a break to my heel. It wasn’t nice and it’s been a long road but, touch wood, it’s all good now.
“It’s one of those things that happens and, if anything, it makes you stronger mentally and can implement things you notice when you’re watching.
“It’s frustrating because you feel helpless watching the boys out there and you can’t do anything to affect it, but behind the scenes you try to keep spirits up.”
While Rovers are flying high in and around the automatic promotion spots, Alcock believes they can still get better as they look to secure an instant return to League One.
“There’s a lot of room for improvement. We all know that as a group,” he added.
“The gaffer is making sure at training that our standards are up there so we do keep improving.
“That’s the positive from our point of view, knowing we’re up there but there’s a lot more to come.”
