Darren’s delighted by Glovers response

- By Chris Spittles

YEOVIL boss Darren Way believes his troops showed their character after moving to the verge of the League Two play-offs with a dramatic late comeback over Colchester.

The Glovers trailed 10 with just four minutes left but claimed three points with late goals from Francois Zoko and Tahvon Campbell.

Zoko blasted in at the near post on 86 minutes to equalise after the visitors led through Kurtis Guthrie’s close-range header.

And then Campbell latched on to Ben Whitfield’s pass in the 90th minute to sweep the ball past Sam Walker and clinch victory.

It was a deserved win for the Glovers, who missed a number of clear chances before finally making the breakthrough.

Way said: “It was a big game for us after Solihull knocked us out of the FA Cup and the players responded brilliantly.

“I wanted to see character and personality and they showed everything I was looking for.

“It could have been a very different story because we missed an awful lot of chances but they deserve credit for keeping going.

“In the end we got our rewards with the two late goals and I don't think anyone will argue that we didn't deserve the win the game.”

Defeat drops struggling Colchester into the League Two relegation zone, with the U's now without a win in ten games.

Manager John McGreal said: "When the equaliser went in you could just see the confidence draining out of the players.

"In the first half we got away with it and were fortunate to come in level at half-time. But then we take the lead and are heading for the victory.

"We could even have gone 2-0 ahead on the break but then in the last five minutes it's like Groundhog Day for us.

"We're all in this together and we need to keep working hard to get a win which will be so important for us."

After Yeovil missed a series of chances with Tom Eaves, Otis Khan and Ryan Hedges all wasting opportunities, it was Colchester who went ahead on 49 minutes.

Guthrie’s shot was deflected on to the crossbar but the striker reacted quickly to head in the rebound from close-range.

The Glovers left it late to level, with Zoko pouncing on a loose ball inside the area before drilling in a fierce shot which beat Walker at his near post.

And there was more drama to come as Whitfield found Campbell inside the area in the final minute and he kept his cool to roll the ball in from close-range.
