BRAVE WYCOMBE HAVE BRIGHT FUTURE

-

THE THOUSANDS that arrived in north London from Buckinghamshire and packed the Park Lane End can only have done so in faint hope rather than expectation at witnessing an FA Cup fourth round shock.

But their wildest dreams looked to be coming true at half-time. So many have tried and failed to topple Spurs in the Premier League this term, but Wycombe were doing just that in the cup and were worthy of the lead given to them by Paul Hayes.

Tottenham came back, as to be expected, but the strength of character not to wilt when pegged back to 2-2 and retake the lead was perhaps the greatest plus point on an afternoon of extreme emotions for Wycombe and their fans.

A spot in Monday’s fifth-round draw would have been wonderful but, in truth, a bigger priority than the cup run has to be the promotion push.

And, on this evidence there will be more highs than lows for Gareth Ainsworth, his players, and those loyal fans.
