WE CAN JUST DO OUR STUFF – AIDEN
AIDEN McGeady insists all the pressure is on the league’s big spenders to reach the play-offs as the Championship season enters its final stages.
The 31-year-old winger and his Preston team-mates started the weekend just five points off sixth, after their 5-0 demolition of Bristol City during the week.
Heading into this weekend, Simon Grayson’s men had suffered just two league defeats since the start of January, to Cardiff City and Fulham.
But, far from getting ahead of themselves, McGeady explained that the only demands on the squad will come from the Lilywhites’ own players.
“The onus is on the teams who have spent a lot of money to be in the playoffs and I don’t really think we fall into that bracket,” he said.
“Obviously, everyone is hoping we could sneak into the play-offs. The expectation levels aren’t going to be what they are at other clubs, considering two seasons ago this team was in League One.
“There’s pressure among ourselves that you put on yourself to try to win every game. Otherwise, why are you in the business?
“But I wouldn’t say there was massive amounts of pressure on us from the manager or even from the fans.”
