BONHAM EAGER TO EXTEND HIS STAY IN CUMBRIA

- By Charlie Peat

JACK Bonham would be delighted to prolong his half-season loan spell at Carlisle following a string of fine performances.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper had to win his place off Shamal George after arriving on loan from Brentford and has been first choice since September.

“Yes, I’m pleased with it,” he said. “When I got back into the side I knew it was important to put in a good run of games and try to cement the No. 1 spot.

“You could probably say it gave me a kick up the backside when Shamal (George) got the starting shirt off me.

“It’s obviously disappointing when you aren’t playing week in and week out, but I’ve got back in and picked my game up.

“That’s important, but we’re also picking up some good results and climbing the table.”

With his current deal ticking down, Bonham said he was happy to stay, should the chance arise.

“We’ve had a few discussions already and I’m more than happy to stay,” he revealed.

“I’m enjoying it and we’re doing well, so, if it was down to me, I’d sign to stay right now.

“It feels like the right club. To start the season as No.1 and play as many games as I have – it’s made this a big part of my career. I really do feel at home here. I’m pleased with some of the saves I’ve made recently as well.”
