JONES IS OUT FOR SEASON AFTER ACL WOE
JODI Jones is devastated to be ruled out for the rest of the season, according to Coventry manager Mark Robins, after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
The 20-year-old midfielder had to be carried off on a stretcher in Tuesday’s clash with Stevenage and could be out for up to ten months.
Jones had made 22 appearance in all competitions for the Sky Blues, netting five times in a breakthrough season.
The Sky Blues boss acknowledges the injury comes as a major blow for his side but says everybody at the club will rally around the youngster.
“It’s bad news for Jodi as he has ruptured his ACL and it means the end of his season now,” said Robins.
“It’s a blow for him as a young player.
“He is a talented boy who is becoming a growing influence and someone who is great to work with.
“It’s a setback for him in his young career.
“It’s going to be difficult for him to come to terms with the injury and the surgery which will follow and then how long he will be out and the rehabilitation that comes with it.
“But he will come back stronger with the help of the medical team and the support of everyone at the club.”
Competition for places, though, will remain as fierce as ever.
Robins believes his players will step up to the mark and fill the gap left by the talented midfielder.
He said: “Luckily, we have some good players, haven’t we? They have to step up now.
“There is a chance for somebody and we have to find a way to work.”
