Tozer’s the hero with late header
NEWPORT manager Michael Flynn applauded his side’s versatility after they earned a hard-fought victory at Swindon in the face of a mounting injury crisis.
The visitors shaded a scrappy affair and former Robins man Ben Tozer deservedly put them ahead before Matt Preston rattled the bar for Swindon in stoppage time.
Injuries forced Flynn to shuffle his pack during the game but the Exiles boss believed this made the win more impressive.
He said: “I try not to make excuses but again I’ve had to make two enforced substitutions today.
“That’s seven now in four games, it’s not ideal. But the boys were switched on for 95 minutes and every one of them was excellent.
“Utility is what we want from the players, they’ve got to be able to do certain jobs when needed.
“I put two academy boys on the bench today and one of them played last night. It’s where we are at the minute; we’ve got a few injuries so it makes that win even more special.”
Swindon meanwhile dropped out of the play-off places as their poor home form continued.
The Robins have won just three league games at the County Ground this season and manager David Flitcroft was brutally honest about his team’s struggles.
