LONG ODDS ON MACK-ING A PROFIT ON THAT CRAZY BET

-

FOR a crazy few hours on Thursday afternoon, one bookie was offering 1,500-1 on Sunderland winning promotion. Anyone who lumped on was swiftly rewarded. As punters exploited the deal, odds collapsed, leading to a bizarre situation in which a £10 bet placed at 1pm could be cashed out for £50 at 4pm. Sadly, I missed this little racket. Of course, anyone resisting the temptation of an instant profit could now be set for a fifteen grand windfall in May. They shouldn’t hold their breath. Victory over Burton last weekend was moraleboosting and Chris Coleman is certainly a coup. Who knows? A bit of new manager bounce and they could be mid-table by January. But, ultimately, that squad is too weak to compete with the best in the division. Money on the Mackems going up is money wasted. Sadly, it’s exactly the attitude owner Ellis Short took in the summer!
